About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced and passionate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic to join their Faculty of Medicine and Health as a Lecturer in Indigenous Health.


This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the design, development and implementation of First Nations curriculum across medicine and health programs while supporting culturally safe education practices and improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.


Based at the Edward Ford Building, Camperdown Campus, this position is predominantly student-facing, with a strong focus on teaching, curriculum development, mentoring and cultural capability building.
 
Work Allocation
  • Approximately 80% teaching and curriculum delivery
  • Approximately 20% research, scholarship and academic administration
Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery of First Nations curriculum across medicine and health programs.
  • Undertake teaching and curriculum-related academic work supporting the Indigenisation of health curriculum.
  • Design and deliver culturally responsive learning experiences and assessment practices.
  • Support curriculum transformation initiatives across the Faculty.
  • Supervise undergraduate research students and contribute to positive student learning outcomes.
Cultural Safety and Capability Building

  • Promote culturally safe, strengths-based and responsive education practices.
  • Assist with mentoring students and staff.
  • Support cultural safety initiatives and capability-building programs.
  • Contribute to workshops, resources and professional development activities focused on cultural safety and decolonising pedagogies.
  • Collaborate with First Nations communities, organisations and other stakeholders.

Research and Scholarly Activity
  • Contribute to research, scholarship and evaluation activities related to Indigenous Health and education.
  • Participate in scholarly outputs, presentations and professional engagement activities.
  • Apply contemporary pedagogical approaches to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Collaboration and Administration
  • Work collaboratively with academic, professional, First Nations and community stakeholders.
  • Support faculty-wide curriculum initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Undertake academic administration associated with teaching and program delivery.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
  Required Skills and Experience
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • PhD or Doctorate in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or curriculum development within health or higher education.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
  • Strong understanding of cultural safety principles and strengths-based approaches to healthcare.
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum or learning initiatives.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including First Nations communities and organisations.
  • Ability to contribute to culturally responsive curriculum design, assessment and program-level initiatives.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to advancing Indigenous health equity and culturally safe education practices.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience contributing to faculty-wide curriculum transformation initiatives.
  • Experience delivering workshops, training or professional development programs.
  • Emerging or demonstrated contribution to research, scholarship or evaluation in Indigenous Health or education.
  • Experience supporting staff capability development in Indigenous curriculum and cultural safety.
  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly publications, presentations or research projects.
