We are seeking an experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic to join our client in a continuing appointment focused on First Nations health. This role offers the opportunity to shape culturally safe learning experiences, support Indigenous students and contribute to the advancement of Indigenous health within a major Australian university.

About the Role

In this position, you will apply deep knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, ways of knowing, being and doing to enhance education and student outcomes. You will contribute significantly to teaching, curriculum design and evaluation within First Nations Health, while also fostering a culturally safe and supportive environment for Indigenous students.
This role is targeted for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants under relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality teaching and co‑teaching in First Nations Health.
  • Design and deliver culturally informed educational content and learning experiences.
  • Support Indigenous and non‑Indigenous students across curriculum and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support for Indigenous students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including embedding First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing.
  • Supervise undergraduate research students as required.
  • Build and maintain relationships with First Nations communities and organisations.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, positive and culturally rich workplace environment.
  • Engage in outreach, seminars and academic activities to strengthen profile and impact.
About You

You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and bring a strong commitment to advancing First Nations health, education and community outcomes. You demonstrate:
  • High levels of cultural capability and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems.
  • Experience in teaching, training or facilitation within health, Indigenous studies or related fields.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and community engagement skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support Indigenous students in higher education settings.
  • Experience in curriculum design, evaluation or academic leadership (highly regarded).
  • Understanding of First Nations health, social determinants of wellbeing and culturally safe practice.
